biography

Norine Spurling

I began life as a barefoot child in Bermuda, surounded by coral sand, blue skies and deep blue sea. Since art was obviously my forte my parents sent me to Philadelphia to study paintng at Moore College of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. During that time I met a young engineering student. We married and moved to Southern California to raise a family. Eventually his job brought us to Western New York and I set out to earn an MFA degree from UB. . For several years I taught Drawing in the Fine Arts Department at SUNY Buffalo.

I have exhibited widely and have won numerous awards. My work has been included in exhibits at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY, Chautauqua Institute, Chautauqua, NY, Talahassee, FL, Brea, CA, Melbourne, Australia, and Hamilton, Bermuda. I have work in several major collections, including the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Buffalo, NY, Blue Cross of Western new York, and West Publishing Co., Saint Paul, MN..

I am active in the Buffalo Society of Artists, and have served as President. I am a member of Hallwalls, the Western New York Artists Group, and the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society. I served several years on the Board of Directors at the Carnegie Art Center in North Tonawanda, and continue to serve as a consultant.

I live and work in Amherst, NY.

My work can be seen at the Oxford Gallery in Rochester, NY and at Art Dialogue Gallery in Buffalo.
